Floyd Henning Johnson of Kennewick, went home to his Heavenly Father On Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in The Chaplaincy Hospice House of Kennewick. Members of the family were with him.
Born Sept. 11, 1932, to Henry & Mimmi Johnson, in Onamia, Minnesota. He spent his early years helping his folks on the family farm. The family moved to Richland in 1940 when his Father started working for G.E. on the Hanford Reservation. Floyd graduated with the Columbia H.S. class of 1951; always was a proud Richland Bomber. After graduation he also worked in Area before joining the Navy in 1952. After serving during the Korean conflict, he was honorably discharged in 1956.
Floyd briefly returned to Richland before signing on at the Boeing Company in Seattle. He worked for Boeing on many projects including the 707 and Lunar Rover between 1956 up until his retirement in 1992.
Shortly after he moved to Seattle, he met the love of his life, Dixie Ann (Jessup). After a short courtship, they eloped and married in Idaho on February 9, 1957. They celebrated their 52nd Anniversary this past February.
Floyd and Dixie Ann raised 4 children, before retiring in Kennewick. Floyd enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his later years embraced the snow bird life, spending winters in southwestern states in their motor home.
Floyd is predeceased by his parents, his 16 year old grandson, Brad Underwood, sister Elsa Van Alstine, brothers Art and Bert Johnson as well as 2 nieces and a great niece.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife Dixie Ann, and their four children James Johnson, Jolynn Lucas, Joseph Johnson and Janette Smith along with 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also, his 4 remaining sisters; Helen Scharr, Ruth Sjodin, Doris Brown, Evelynn Johnson, and sister-in-law Lena Johnson.
The family wishes special thanks and prayers to Dr. Lucas Megna and PA-C Andrew Hansen, who were so helpful in his past years and so considerate and kind to all of us.
A celebration of his life will be held at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home in Kennewick on Friday, December 12th at 12 Noon.
In lieu of flowers, Floyd and Dixie would rather you send donations to The Chaplaincy Hospice House, at 2108 W. Entiat Avenue, Kennewick, Washington.
